Hiding a Ford Regulator in an Alternator Equipped Citroen D’s and SM’s

Many of us have replaced the Ducellier voltage regulators on our alternator equipped Citroen D and SM models
with electronic Ford regulators. The original voltage regulators have long ago passed their life expectancy and
new ones are very difficult to find. Lights flicker and change intensity with shortened bulb life. Our batteries
risk damage from overcharging. In 1985, John Titus wrote the definitive article on this subject in the
Hollywood, California Citroen Club newsletter. In it he described how to install an electronic Ford voltage
regulator such as NAPA part #MPEVR440SB to stabilize system voltage. Figure 1, from that article, shows the
electrical circuit for the original system. Figure 2 shows the Ford regulator in place. This system works well.
However, it uses a different method of controlling the charge indicator light. Instead of using a relay to
disconnect the ground for the charge indicator lamp, it uses a current differential. This can cause charge light
flicker.

With the original keys, the user can operate DVD or digital TV with pop-op OSD text. The user may use the ＂Ｖｏｌ＋／－＂ to pop up ＯＳ Ｄ ， and press ＂ Ｌ ｉ ｓ ｔ ＂ to execute the
selected operation．[this has been verified to be the most convenient operation with minimum background operation]

Mainly because new cars are heavily discounted, the resale value of Citroëns tends to be low – making the C3 a bargain for second-hand buyers. Indeed, if you have £6,000 or more, to spend, there is a large choice on dealers’ forecourts.
But one drawback is the high cost of dealer servicing – as highlighted by the Daily Mirror recently: “Drivers could save an average £50 a time by not having their new cars serviced at main dealers. For some, like Citroën C3 owners, it can be up to £141 cheaper.”

dealer will charge around £100. Yet you can buy the parts from a reputable motor accessory
